I love to travel and over the years I have realized that some cities are just better during certain seasons. With Summer quickly coming upon us, I decided to put together a list of cities that are best for this summer season. I gathered my list and then asked our members around the world for their favorites. These cities might not be the best during Winter, Fall, or Spring but come the Summer they are the best.
Seattle is notorious for its long rainy season, dark music scene, and dark grungy clothes. But come the summer, it is a changed city. With sayings like "it does rain in Seattle, but you don't get wet" make the rest of us wear a puzzled look but Seattle inhabitants believe it. Come Summertime this city sparks with enthusiasm. Most flock for the famous "Needle" but you'll find the Columbia Center Observatory has a better view of the city and skyline. Seattle, being home to Starbucks, you'll find some incredible and tasty blends of coffee. And get down to Pike Place Market for fresh seafood and a waterfront atmosphere like no other.
Our next destination takes us across the States to New England. It's an old area of the U.S. called "Old Orchard Beach, Maine". It's pretty sleepy during the Winter because of the freezing cold, lack of industry and inhabitants but during the summer, look out! Vacationers come from as far as Canada and Massachusetts. Outside of New England, most people don't even know this place exists. It is the poster-boy for the quaint New England town with cobblestone streets, beachfront hotels, hot beaches and homemade saltwater taffy. Those of you that have not tried it, salt water taffy is neither salty or contains seaweed. It's a delicious smooth and soft candy that is made fresh right in front of your eyes with every flavor imaginable as well as some that will make you scratch your head. Head out after a day at the beach to get some fresh lobster (pronounced lob-stah). Our favorite is the Lobster Pot. Order your lobster and then walk over to the outdoor wood tables underneath the oak trees and feast. You've never had lobster this fresh or this tasty; no way. If you catch the weather right, you'll have hot days and cool breezy nights.
For our third and final city, we go back across the country to Southern California. Each city lies on the coasts of the US. That must add to the Summertime goodness. San Diego has probably the best climate in the United States. It stays pretty moderate for almost the entire year. During the Summer, you have hot days with a nice breeze so you never feel uncomfortable. The beach is long so it's never too crowded for resting and what a wonderful beachfront scene they have. You'll find great timeshare resorts in great locations whether you are exchanging with RCI or Interval International or by renting a timeshare. Restaurants, pubs, ice cream, bicycle rentals and so much more. It is a great beach to just get out and walk, stop to grab a delicious bite to eat and hear some live music and then get back to the beach. If you want to take a break from the beach, head out to Sea World and see some great live action shows and wonderful sealife. San Diego has a rich culture with a Mexican infusion especially in Old Town, Mission area. This area is filled with great live music, great Mexican cuisine and a very unique architecture.
I love the Summertime. And when the Summer Time comes, there are certain cities that just thrive and stand above the rest. My favorite season is by far, the Summertime. And I love some cities more than others during this season. We picked San Diego, Old Orchard Beach in Maine, and Seattle as the best three cities to vacation at in the Summer. Each with a distinct and different culture and attraction. So what would you add to the list?
