Who doesn't like to look at a waterfall? It's a gift from Mother Nature and can bring peace to even the most stressed out individual. They're all over the world but where are the best, most awesome waterfalls in the world? There are hundreds maybe thousands around the world and rating them is quite subjective but I wanted to make you aware of 3 you shouldn't miss out on. Our members from all over the world made their suggestions. And the best part is that checking out Mother Nature's Falls is perfect for any style of vacation you are planning.
A popular suggestion from members was Iguazú Falls in Argentina. The most popular part of Iguazu Falls is called "Devil's Throat" which is a horse-shoe shaped waterfall that is 269 feet wide and 2,300 feet long. The water at Iguazu is powerful and falls quite hard. The water is so powerful that to the naked eye it looks as though the water is actually shooting up from the large pool of water below. Be sure to grab the "Train of the Forest", the railway going through the park to the footbridges below. Running from the border of Brazil and Argentina to the city of Curitiba, the Iguazu River is gorgeous. Members suggested that you can avoid the tourist season by going in October. This time also had more preferable pricing.
Located on the small Hawaiian island of Kauai is my favorite of the three. Take one look at Hanakapi'ai and you'll be thinking Jurassic Park for sure. Don't worry, no dinosaurs here. Named after a Menehune Princess, this lush green tropical landscape is a favorite for many travelers. The waterfall is much more narrow than Iguazu in Argentina and not as powerful but its beauty and tranquility is hard to match. The water falls 300 feet to the pool below with the tropical rainforest surrounding it. The landscape is fantastic. To get there, it's an eight mile hike on the Kalalaui Trail on the northern coast of the island. Keep in mind, this is the rainforest so be sure to pack bug repellant and water. And be sure to avoid the crowds during the summer.
Although we had many entries sent in, no list of waterfalls would be complete without the mother of them all, Niagara. Located on the border of NY and Canada, this is by far the most powerful waterfall in North America. It is actually divided into 2 different falls; One on the US side and other other on the Canadian side. Horseshoe Falls on the Canadian side is the smaller of the two but arguing which is more beautiful is futile. Most people agree that the absolute best view is from the water. That's right, get in the water and see the falls up close with your poncho and rain gear. Take the "Maid of the Mist" and get right into the action. Summer is high season and you'll be fighting the crowds. Members suggested, if possible, going right before or right after summer to avoid the heavy crowds of the summer months.
