Outside of Denver, Colorado is the "Rockies". It's always been on my list to see. A few years ago, I had the pleasure of spending four days in the area. After spending some time researching Denver and what activities to do, where to eat, and what to see I was prepared. I asked the community for their feedback in order to properly prepare for this article about Denver. This article is aimed at families traveling together and couples that are not looking to "paint the town red" type of vacation (that's entirely different article). Denver is family oriented and fun and reserved. Denver is about enjoying and loving the great outdoors not about living to excess.

We arrived late on a Thursday and headed directly to Hi Dive on Broadway for some great live music. As we were told beforehand, the music was great; a mixture of classic rock and jazz. We were hungry after that so we headed over to "City, O City" on advice of some locals. They serve some great tasty late-night comfort food and the atmosphere is fun and energetic.

The following day we headed over to Red Rocks, an amphitheater at the foot of the Rocky Mountains. We knew there was no show that night but we wanted to check it out. It reminded me of Stone Mountain in Atlanta. Since our timeshare exchange was free, we had more money for vacation. Since there was no show that night we were able to explore. We learned that the Beatles played there once.

We headed back to town to watch the sunset. We heard that a great place to view the sun set is to grab an ice cream cone at "Little Man Ice Cream" in the Highlands neighborhood and just sit back and relax. Everything they said was right on at RCI my account website where we read about it. The sunset was perfect and there was a great crowd watching it. We highly recommend this area that we were lucky enough to be told about.

For dinner that night we headed over to the Fruition Restaurant. On suggestion, I went with the Split Pea Soup to start and then the buttermilk chicken confit for dinner. For dessert I had some fresh pressed coffee and lemon merengue and berries. It was a home run for sure. We noticed that Denver is a very casual dress kind of area. I expected more cowboy hats and was surprised not to see many. Lots of fleece jackets and hiking boots and quite a few cowboy shirts. Overall we enjoyed our time and would recommend you make time to experience a wonderful area of the United States. It is certainly a place a place to talk to the locals. They love their city and love their way of life. Even if that way of life is not for you, it's a great place to admire for a long weekend.
